Sergei Gonchar

Sergei Gonchar - Ricordo del Giro d'Italia 2003 / Memory of Giro d'Italia 2003

Something about a hard-to-die man today retired. It's Gontchar, an Ukrainan rider very strong in the ITT famous for the very hard gears he was using. A brave who was also sometimes in the attacks, someone who was not hiding in the group but, anyhow, his best was given in the individual competition. About him I remember especially the great joy at the Giro 2006, in Saltara, when he became the leader of the race and got the rosa jersey. The same year he also got the yellow at the Tour. In the picture he is climbing the Alpe di Pampeago in the 2003. The climbs weren't his favourite but in the best years he was able to manage them well so that in the 2004 he was 2nd in the Giro overall.
